A Hospital Cleaner is responsible for maintaining exceptional standards of cleanliness and hygiene within healthcare facilities such as hospitals, clinics, and medical centers. Their work is critical in preventing infections and ensuring a safe, sanitary environment for patients, medical staff, and visitors. Hospital Cleaners perform a wide range of cleaning tasks, from disinfecting patient rooms and operation theaters to managing waste disposal according to strict health regulations.
Key Responsibilities
- Clean, disinfect, and sanitize patient rooms, hallways, waiting areas, operation theaters, restrooms, and other public spaces within the healthcare facility.
- Safely handle and dispose of medical and general waste, following all health and safety regulations to prevent contamination or infection.
- Restock cleaning supplies and materials to ensure all cleaning activities can be carried out efficiently and without interruption.
- Adhere strictly to infection control procedures, hygiene standards, and safety protocols to minimize the risk of healthcare-associated infections.
- Identify and report any maintenance issues, broken equipment, or safety hazards to supervisors promptly to maintain a safe environment.
- Work collaboratively with medical and support staff to schedule cleaning activities that minimize disruption to patient care and hospital operations.
- Maintain cleaning equipment and ensure proper use of cleaning chemicals according to guidelines.
- Comply with workplace health and safety regulations and wear protective equipment as required.
Skills & Requirements

- Physically capable of performing manual cleaning tasks and standing for extended periods.
- Flexibility to work various shifts, including nights, weekends, and holidays as healthcare facilities operate 24/7.
- Good communication skills to coordinate with healthcare teams and supervisors effectively.
- Previous experience in hospital or healthcare cleaning roles is an advantage but not mandatory.
- Reliable, punctual, and able to follow instructions accurately.
